Into the Woods
“Into the woods”, Floriade Expo 2022, Almere, Holland 2022
This gigantic, unique theatre in the middle of the forest consists of two organic flowing forms that are in complete dialogue with each other.
The natural forest theatre was created for the Floriade and the city of Almere in collaboration with The Bonte Hond theatre group.
Forest theatre “Into the Woods” towers more than six meters high above the platform. The two rhythmic structures seem to move and grow not only in structure but also in texture. The skin of the organic material gives the works a quality that appear to make them move subtly. They are in symbiosis with each other, the subtle movement encourages the visitor to look and search for details therefore experiencing the visual work intrinsically. The dialogue between the two sculptural forms creates the illusion of a living organism, a living forest entity.
In the theatre show “Save the World” by the Bonte Hond the importance of creating awareness about our environmental issues is specifically aimed at the younger generation.
Children are encouraged to think about sustainability and eco-friendliness. The message is strong and clear - Save the world by means of your deeds. The project takes it a step further with the simple and basic principle of shouting your inner wish for Nature out into the world through the “Horn of Wishes”.
Their wish is then written down and hung up in the “I wish for Nature” project of
Will Beckers. They will be added to the thousands of wishes which were collected during “The Willowman” project in the Floriade 2012. Wishes from ten years ago are displayed alongside wishes from 2022. The project challenges us to become aware of our actions with regard to the environment and explores our relationship with Nature.
