Salt

Dead Sea, Israel

2013

“Salt” is a project realised on location on the shores of the Dead Sea. The work is a symbolic bridge between Israel and Jordan. An organic sculpture floating on the Dead Sea.

The sculpture was part of Beckers’  “Designed by Nature” lecture which he was asked to give to at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.

The students of the Industrial Design department of Bezalel Academy collaborated in building the floating organism on site at the Dead Sea.

“Salt” was built solely with local materials sourced in Israel. It is a study in biomimicry. Beckers investigates natural forms in his work and links them to natural habitats.

“Salt” is a type of hermitage dating back to the ancient nomads, yet enhances modern artistic principles.
